Gunnison Whitewater Park

A fabulous addition to the town of Gunnison, Colorado has been the construction of the Gunnison Whitewater Park, which is located on the west side of town. Built for recreational kayaking, rafting and canoeing, the Whitewater Park is also a popular spot for rafters and anglers who want to float on the Gunnison River.

The newly constructed Whitewater Park in Gunnison, Colorado is a series of rock structures, which have been placed in the River along several hundred feet. The placement of these structures serves to create diverse water dynamics that make kayaking and rafting thrilling. The area has become a playground for paddlers who want to enjoy the tricks of whitewater paddling within a short expanse of the river. This area also allows kayakers to improve their whitewater skills in a more controlled environment.

To find the Whitewater Park go just west of the town of Gunnison and check out the Gunnison River just downstream of the Twin Bridges. The community park surrounding the Whitewater Park has a walking path and a picnic area complete with grills. You can take a stroll along the walking path and find any of a number of great places to fish.

The Gunnison River Whitewater Park is managed and maintained by the Todd Crane Center for Outdoor Leadership and the Recreation Department at Western State College.
