If you are in the area of Crested Butte, Colorado and are looking for a great mountain river to fish, or want to experience some great white water for rafting, kayaking or canoeing – check out the Taylor River. The Taylor River provides great recreational opportunities combined with fantastic scenery.
The Taylor River near Crested Butte, Colorado is the perfect place for a grand mountain fishing experience, or a wild ride on some ragging white water. The River begins high up in the mountain area and then travels past several mountains with heights in excess of 14,000 feet. In a picturesque setting overlooking the Collegiate Peaks, the Taylor River empties into the Taylor Park Reservoir.
In addition to excellent fly-fishing, the Taylor River has some great whitewater. The river is steep and thus, offers a diverse array of fun rapids. However, because it is so steep, it should only be run by advanced kayakers, canoeists and rafters.
For most of its flow, the Taylor River is on private property, but there is access available along various stretches of the river at campgrounds and turnouts. Always be aware of where you are to insure that you do not trespass on private land.
