Tincup Colorado Ghost Town

Attractions //
Located within easy driving distance from Crested Butte, Colorado is the seemingly ghost town of Tin Cup. Founded in 1859 when the first placer gold was found in the area, Tin Cup is still inhabited and even has a small store/gift shop in the middle of town, and a small log cabin restaurant.
Tin Cup, Colorado got its name from one of the early miners who carried out his gold dust in a tin cup. In the early days, the town was lawless and most matters were decided by the crooked and dishonest among the local citizens. Founded in 1859, Tin Cup boomed in 1879. History states that the population was approximately 2,000 people at the turn of the century, but shortly thereafter the population began to dwindle. A few individuals still live here in renovated log structures.
One of the interesting sights to see in Tin Cup is the historic cemetery. It contains Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish sections.
You can get to Tin Cup from Cottonwood Pass west of Buena Vista, from Taylor Canyon east of Almont, and from the beautiful Cumberland Pass which exits from the north end of Pitkin.
