The 4th of July in Crested Butte is an action packed day centered around the famous parade. The parade runs along Elk Avenue in downtown Crested Butte, and is promised to be a treat for all sightseers. Traditionally there are floats and costumes decorated with local flavor and humor.

4th of July Events and Schedule

6:30 a.m. FREE shuttle departs to Gothic for start of 1/3 Marathon race at the 4-way stop in Crested Butte (Elk Avenue and 6th Street)

7:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. Crested Butte Fire & EMS Department's Pancake Breakfast at the fire station in Crested Butte

8:00 a.m. 44th Annual Gothic to Crested Butte 1/3 Marathon (proceeds benefit the Rocky Mountain Biological Lab)

10:00 a.m. Food Court Open

11:00 a.m. Parade

12:00 p.m. (ish and following parade) - Live Music & Entertainment, Street Games

All above events will take place between 2nd- 3rd and Elk Avenue in Crested Butte

4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Band "Boston Brass" Center for the Arts outdoor stage

6:00 -  9:30 PM Band "Amber Leigh" Red Lady Stage Crested Butte Mountain Resort (Glow sticks, Food and Fun for all!)

  • Happens every 4th of July and begins at 11 am
  • The parade is a fun event for the whole family. Watch out for the fire trucks. You may get soaked!

Overview: The Gunnison Rotary Club has sponsored the 4th of July festivities in Crested Butte for 55 years, and the events keep getting better. The pancakes, music, food booths, fireworks and block party are all fun, but nothing beats the parade. 

When: July 4th, year after year. The parade begins at 11 am.

Where: Downtown Crested Butte. the parade starts on Elk Avenue Sixth Street and ends near Second Street.

Cost: Free for parade goers. Fees for parade entry may apply.

Details: There is plenty of local flavor that adds humor and festivity to the scene. There are local Crested Butte groups who annually try to out do each other for the more outrageous costume. The parade is fun for the whole family and there is plenty of viewing space along Elk Avenue.

Other 4th of July events include an early morning pancake breakfast, live music, pie eating contest, log sawing contest and fireworks at the base of Mt. Crested Butte ski area.
