Alley Loop Nordic Race

The Alley Loop Nordic Race is the premier event in Crested Butte's Winter Carnival, traditionally held in early February. The cross country skiing race offers many different length races to accommodate to all skier levels and ages. It is the highest altitude nordic race in the United States and one of the best costume parties in Colorado.

The Alley Loop Race begins and ends on Elk Avenue in downtown Crested Butte. The various courses wind through streets, alleys and trails around Crested Butte. Course lengths include 1k, 3k, 5k, 10k, 12k, 21k, and 42k so all ages and abilities are encouraged to race. The race is a perfect example of Crested Buttes play hard attitude and the local laid back atmosphere. Participants and onlookers are welcome to wear costumes. Past years have featured Hot Dog Man, See Through Genie and mini cowboys and cowgirls. All racer will receive a race bag, an Alley Loop t-shirt designed by a local artist, and free chili and beer. Skis and cash prizes will be awarded to overall winners and the racer who gets the exact median time.
