Crested Butte Summit Hike
The Summit Hike in Crested Butte is held annually in an effort to raise money for those living with cancer. The hike goes up Mt. Crested Butte and provides breath taking 360 degree views. The hike is scheduled for August 9, 2008 and invites participants of all ages and abilities to participate in this outreaching adventure.
Mt. Crested Butte is visible from downtown and stands 12,162 feet high. Dramatic views from the summit include the West Elk Mountains, the Raggeds, the Gunisson National Forest and the Snowmass/Maroon Bells Wilderness. For those feeling rugged, the hike is 11.5 miles round trip. For hikers who want to take the casual route, a chairlift is available and leaves a two mile round trip hike to the summit. The Summit Hike is a fund raiser to support and educate those living with cancer and help them with daily financial stresses. There is a registration fee and hikers are asked to raise $100.00 in donations. Awards will be given out to the top fund raisers at the post hike party where food, prizes and raffle are available.
