Elk Mountains Grand Traverse
The Elk Mountain Traverse is not for the weak and mild. This race travels the 40 miles of forested wilderness between Crested Butte and Aspen. The course follows the traditional mail routes that connected Colorado mining towns in the 1880's. This rugged backcountry ski race lasts for a whole night and day.
The Elk Mountain Grand Traverse is a one of a kind race adventure. There is a mandatory gear check for all participants to ensure that everyone has the proper equipment to sustain them safely for 24 hours in the wilderness in case of emergency. After the gear check is a Pasta Feed to fuel up all racers.
The race begins at midnight and continues through the day. Racers will ski in teams of two and are required to stay together through all checkpoints. The course is sparsely marked throughout the wilderness so racers must be prepared to find their own way.
