Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour
Each year, Crested Butte plays host to the Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour, the world's longest running bike event. Dating back almost 30 years, this event celebrates the rich history of biking in Crested Butte and the people in Colorado who pioneered the sport.
The Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour began in 1976, when a group of locals decided to bike the pass on a whim. With their town cruisers in hand they headed for the pass and spent the next couple days biking or rather pushing their rickety bikes to Aspen. Needless to say there was plenty of celebrating along the way, especially once they reached the glitzy town of Aspen. To commemorate this festive event, the Pearl Pass Mountain Bike Tour takes riders 12,705 feet up Pearl Pass and 39 miles from Crested Butte to Aspen during a long weekend in September.
For the more adventurous, you can opt out of the free shuttle back to Crested Butte and ride back over Taylor and Star Passes. The initial ride into Aspen take two days, with a camp out near Cumberland Basin, complete with a tasty meal and plenty of beverages. For registration info, check with the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, located in the heart of Crested Butte.
It looks like you may have missed it this time around.
