A part of the East River is known as a wild trout stream. The fish borne here are meant to be in the wild. Along the river is the Roaring Judy Fish Hatchery. Trout are hatched here, but they are transported to other rivers in Colorado.
The East River is a perfect, scenic spot for fly-fishing. Found in a ranching valley just north of Gunnison, Colorado, the river has numerous rocky bars, which are excellent fishing spots. As you stand on one of the rocky bars and cast your line into the water rushing by, you can take in the scenery of grassy slopes and high mountain peaks.
There is a definite fishing season, so check with the local officials to determine the rules and regulations. Stream flow also varies, as this is a natural river without any dam upstream.
