The waters of the Gunnison of today provide a quality fishery – actually qualifying for Gold Medal status among all the trout waters in the State of Colorado. There is an eighteen-mile stretch of the Gunnison River, which lies above the Blue Mesa Reservoir. Half of this stretch of the River is public and half runs through private land. There are many areas with easy public access to the River.
