Crested Butte Cross Country Skiing

One of the most enjoyable winter activities in Crested Butte, Colorado is cross country skiing. A great adventure for all ages and all abilities, cross country skiing offers a great workout along with beautiful views and a fun alternative to downhill skiing. Over the years the Crested Butte Nordic Center has developed an extensive trail system for cross country and skate skiing. The trails link the ski mountain to town to a number of natural destinations around the downtown area.

The trails cover a total of 42 kilometers and reach an average elevation of 9,000 feet. 20% of these groomed trails are rated beginner, 50% intermediate, and 30% advanced. The nordic center also rents out skis and gear as well as provides instruction and tours. Although cross country skiing may be considered an easy sport to learn there are always ways to improve your technique. Try taking a lesson for classic or skate skiing. Remember that these trails are all established on private property. Therefore straying from the designated trails is prohibited. Dogs are not allowed on trails as well.
