Hiking and backpacking are great ways to see the Crested Butte area, one of the prettiest parts of Colorado. There are all sorts of hikes from mellow, low elevation trails to challenging, high elevation mountain passes accessing peaks towering towards 14, 000 feet. Whichever type of hike you choose, you can be certain that you will get to see much of the beauty Crested Butte boasts.
Don't forget to bring your cameras, as wildflowers and wildlife are very likely to come across your path. Everything from mule deer, elk, foxes, and birds of prey have been spotted in the area.
There are several longer hikes to take if a longer backpacking trip is what you have in mind - you can even follow one of the trails leading all the way to Aspen. And if you prefer to have someone with a bit more experience show you the way, there are guide services available. Just check with any of the outdoor gear shops in the area.
