Whitewater addicts come to Crested Butte for its awesome rivers and streams, but even if you have never rafted whitewater you will find something to your liking. The Gunnison River is one of the main tributaries to the Colorado River and a popular spot for whitewater rafting of every level.
With a network of steep creeks and streams, the Gunnison has challenging areas registering as high as class VI and also mellow parts as low as class I. The slower parts of the Gunnison are ideal for novice whitewater rafters and those with younger children. The Taylor River is another great rafting spot with its rapids ranging from class II to class IV.
Both the Gunnison and Taylor Rivers are ideal for anyone looking to spend a half day on class II or III rapids. Choose from several longer trips to if you want to go out for a full day. There are plenty of rafting outfitters in the area whose experienced guides can take you out or rent you the necessary equipment to go for it alone.
