Ice skating and hockey tournaments entertain locals as well as visitors to Crested Butte, Colorado each winter. Novices as well as experienced skaters enjoy skating at Crested Butte's two public skating rinks and its hockey rink. Don't worry if you didn't bring your skates, rentals are available at most rinks.

For those interested in hockey, Crested Butte holds several organized hockey competitions throughout the winter. Spectators are encouraged to attend. If you are looking to join a game, most locals don't turn interested visitors away. Just be aware that most Crested Butte locals are serious about their game.
For a different skating experience, you can skate endless miles on the Blue Mesa Reservoir. Distance skaters, as they are called, enjoy the endurance challenge that skating the reservoir has to offer. During cold winters, the Park Service keeps an ice rink near the boat ramp on the Blue Mesa.
