Almont Colorado

Located just eleven miles north of Gunnison, Colorado where the Taylor and East Rivers meet and form the Gunnison River, is the small town of Almont, Colorado. Almont is a great place to start your canoe or kayak trip, horseback trail ride, mountain bike trail ride or a day of 4x4 adventures.

Originally named Fishers after the first white settler in the area, the small town of Almont, Colorado received it current name in 1881 when it was named after a famous racehorse.

Once a rail terminal for the transportation of ore from the mining camps to Gunnison, Almont is known today as a tranquil, resort like setting small town where time moves a little slower.

In the summer, anglers and rafters flock to Almont to take advantage of the confluence of the Taylor and East Rivers tumbling together to form the Gunnison River. The area is dotted with ranch resorts, mountain cabins, camping areas and rafting outfitters and guides. Winter outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Almont's close proximity to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and snowshoeing.
