Nordic skiing, an activity almost as hold as the snow itself, has become very popular with the advent of fast-paced skate skiing and growing interest in backcountry touring. A relaxing way to enjoy alpine trails, it's a heart-healthy activity that beginners learn quickly.
Where to go Cross Country Skiing
For groomed trails, it hardly gets better than the Crested Butte Nordic Center. $20 buys access to 50 km of trails. Open daily from 8:30 to 5 PM December through March (pending conditions), the Nordic center is located on the free bus route right near downtown.
Grab a map at the local BLM office and hit wilderness trails. Slate River Valley, Gothic Road and Washington Gulch are popular beginner areas, while Brush Creek is recommended for intermediate and advanced skiers.
