Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport

Tourist season controls the flights, and here in Crested Butte, tourist season is in the winter. Technically, this makes Gunnison- Crested Butte Regional Airport a seasonal airport, but United Airlines operates as the sole airline carrier during the summer.

• Airport Code: GUC
• Location: Getting to and from the airport couldn't be easier. From Crested Butte, head south on CO- 135 S, continue onto S Main St and turn right on Rio Grande Ave. The airport is at 711 Rio Grande Ave.
  The drive should take 35 minutes in good conditions.
• Airlines:
  Year Round Service
  United Airlines- Direct flights from Denver and Los Angeles.
  Winter Service Only
  American Airlines- Direct service to Dallas/Ft. Worth
  Delta Airlines- The only direct flight is from Atlanta to Montrose.
  Continental Airlines- Direct service to Houston
• Airport Services:
  This may be a super small airport, but there is still a gift shop for all your souvenir needs and a restaurant that offers fairly typical American cuisine. Need to rent a car, stop by the rental agency desks found near the baggage claim area.
• Getting To/From the Airport:
  -Taxi/Limo available.
  -Alpine Express Shuttle is available with a reservation.
  -Hertz, Avis and Budget operate rental desks at the airport.

Denver International Airport

Denver International is the largest airport in Colorado. The drive is a little over four and a half hours from Denver to Crested Butte, but that can increase tremendously in the winter.

• Airport Code: DEN
• Location: The airport is very convenient in many respects, but location is not one of them. Located 23 miles northeast of downtown Denver, getting to and from the airport can take some time, especially when road conditions are bad. From Denver to Crested Butte it takes a solid four and a half hours via US-285 S to US-50 W and then north on CO-135 N. Add an hour if you take I-70 west and then cut down US-285 S to US-50 W and then up on CO-135 N. If you plan on driving, check for winter road advisories and road closings.
• Airlines: All major airlines fly into Denver.
• Airport Services: Denver airport offers a full range of services including restaurants, lounges, bars, shops, Wifi, ATMs, shoeshines, money exchanges, and full handicap accessibility.

Montrose Regional Airport

Montrose offers slightly expanded service compared to the Gunnison-Crested Butte airport and provides the closest airport option to Crested Butte, outside of the Gunnison- Crested Butte airport of course.

• Airport Code: MTJ
• Location:
  Montrose is just 90 miles southwest of Crested Butte. Just take US-50 east from Montrose, at Gunnison head north on CO-135 N to Crested Butte. If the roads are good the drive should take roughly two hours.
• Airlines:
  Year Round Service
  United Express (Skywest)- Service to Denver.
  Summer Service
  Continental Airlines- Service to Houston.
  American Airlines- Service to Dallas/Ft. Worth.
  Winter Service
  Continental Airlines- Expanded service is offered to Newark and Houston.
  American Airlines- Expanded service is offered to Dallas/Ft. Worth and Chicago.
  Delta Airlines- Service to Atlanta.
• Airport Services:
  The airport is small but not without the simple amenities. Grab food at the Jetway Cafe or from one of the vending machines, pick up last minute souvenirs at the gift shop and a paper at the newspaper stand. If you are renting a car, car rental agency booths are located near baggage claim.
• Getting To/From Airport:
  -Taxi/Limo available.
  -Alpine Express Shuttle is available with a reservation.
  -Hertz, Avis, Alamo National, Enterprise and Budget operate rental desks at the airport.
  -Telluride Express will take you to Telluride and is available with a reservation.

Grand Junction Regional Airport

Grand Junction is a little further then Montrose, but it does offer some different flight options.

• Airport Code: GJT
• Location: Grand Junction is 154 miles northwest of Crested Butte. From Grand Junction take US-50 E to Gunnison, at Gunnison head north on CO-135 N until you reach Crested Butte. The drive should take three hours, but if road conditions are bad expect the drive to take much longer.
• Airlines:
  Allegiant Airlines- Service to Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
  American Airlines- Service to Dallas/Ft. Worth.
  Delta Airlines- Service to Salt Lake City.
  United Airlines- Service to Denver
  US Airways- Service to Phoenix.
  Continental Airlines- Service to Houston.
• Airline Services:
  The airport is small, but it does have a sandwich shop that offers wine and beer. Car rental agency booths are also found within the terminal near the baggage claim area.
• Getting To/From Airport:
  -Alamo, Hertz, Avis, Budget, National, and Enterprise operate rental desks at the airport.
  -Taxi/Limo available for transportation around Grand Junction.
  -Dolly's Mountain Shuttle offers one way service to or from Grand Junction to Crested Butte. Reservations are mandatory.
